The SaltSlinger™ automatically detects snow or freezing rain and dispenses snow melt pellets (calcium chloride) or rock salt over an adjustable area in order to keep snow and ice accumulations to a minimum. This reduces or eliminates the need to shovel snow from a driveway or sidewalk, and keeps ice from forming or clinging to the pavement. The unit operates unattended. It monitors the environment  for the presence of, and rate of accumulation of snow, rain, sleet, etc. and factors that would cause it to accumulate, such as freezing or falling temperatures. The unit's controller then uses our proprietary algorithm to determine when to dispense pellets or salt, and what quantity to dispense. The unit also includes a person detector to prevent it from operating while a person or large pet is in the path of the spray, and has visual and audible alarms that precede operation. A simpler slave unit, controlled by the master unit, is available for broader coverage. Such a slave unit can also be used, with a manual remote, as a stand alone unit.
